Welcome to Andover! Here’s a few good to know tips for new area home or property owners:
- Tax bills for any home sold, and not filed at the registry of deeds in South Paris before April 1st of the following year, will be mailed to the prior owner. This is one of the top items that surprise new home owners and sellers. This process is handled by your real estate agent so if you are missing a tax bill, contact the agent who handled the sale. The Town Office can also provide you with a copy.
- Property cards are available on our Assessors web site: John O’Donnell
- Homestead Exemptions do not follow the sale of a property. New owners = new filing required. Once you have lived full time at your new home, stop by the Town Office and file for a Homestead Exemption to save money on your tax bill. The deadline for filing an exemption to be applied to upcoming tax bill is April 1st. Exemptions are removed when an owner dies (April 1st baseline) and the property passes hands or when a property is sold to a new owner
- Military Veteran Exemptions – file for an exemption at the Town Office – prior exemptions do not follow you
- One (1) Transfer Station pass is provided per property owner. This means if you plan to rent to others on your property, only one pass – to the owner – is provided. Stop by the office to receive you pass
- Sand pile – property owners are allowed to take sand in 5 gal bucket increments as needed. The sand is for use on walkways and driveways, and is not to be sold nor part of any sanding contract and cannot be provided to non-residents
- Alterations to your property (building a home/shed/barn, etc.) – contact the Planning Board for permitting and shoreline zoning requirements ahead of beginning any project
- Planning to use part of your property for a business? Contact the Planning Board for site plan review requirements and regulations
- Register your pet within the state regulations at the Town Office. Proof of Rabies vaccination is required. Registrations after 1/31/25 will include a $25 late fee per animal
